Rahul Gulati

Postdoctoral Research Associate

I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computational Physics group with Professor Krishna Garikipati at the University of Southern California. I recently received my Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, minor in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

I have a distinctive background at the intersection of generative AI, machine learning, optimization, and physics-based scientific simulations

Interests

Deep Learning, Large Language Models (LLMs), Multimodal Transformers, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Machine Learning, Generative AI, Foundation models, Computational Modeling, Physics Informed Machine Learning, Surrogate modeling, Finite Element Method, Non-linear optimization 

Hobbies

  • Programming + Math: My work has been greatly inspired from my deep interest in Maths since my childhood. 
  • Volunteering: I believe in giving back to the community. I have actively volunteered at: UW-Madison Science Expedition, Second Harvest Food Bank, Disability Pride Madison, Ironman Wisconsin, Tour of Madison for International students (I was a featured volunteer), Spring Powwow, BadgerSpill (counsellor). I have also mentored students including with UW-Madison’s DDEEA, ISS Bridge.
  • Traveling: Been to five countries.
  • Psychology: Inspired from my undergraduate courses in Psychology, I have volunteered as a counselor at Yourdost, BadgerSpill
